The garden will move |

5 summers to transform a lifeless section to an alive and organic garden, to a sacred place to grow our food … and now we are going to move it! Wonder how? … well, so do we, but we will make it happen!
Why? It has been fantastic to turn a piece of dead land into a thriving vege and herb garden. We have managed to grow our own food for 4 years now – organic – and not following any other system than our hearts. We have welcomed all beings and have all lived of the garden. Nothing from the outside entered. We have composted – and we can assure you that natural compost left to mature gives a wonderful soil. Healthy, cleansing, dark, moist – and with a nice smell. No Legionnaires’ disease there. We have attracted many beings – including fruit trees…. and they are growing so fast. We have to leave this place to find better room. The new place is 4 times the size – and we look forward to bring the spirit of the one dimension to this new piece of land. We have collected heaps of seeds to establish a new garden. There are trees here that just have grown too big now to move. We will try with cuttings from them. Some plants are so amazing – that even they are big we will make an effort to bring them with us. This last summer was the first where we saw our white sage in flower. 3 m long flower stalks with silvery white bells dotted all the way up. We are in for a major task – respecting the wish of every single one of them, whether they want to stay or go.
The garden we leave is a beautiful garden – grown organically – with soil that gives an abundance of most things grown here. There is no lawn to mow – except for the strips between the patches and around the trees. We have been using everything in the garden – no dead corners. A walk through will take you past trees, - lemon, mandarin, orange, grape fruit, feijoa, bay tree, tea tree, kowhai, camphor, witch hazel, plum, elder, purple wattle, chestnut, apple, pear, cherry, … and you will pass rosemary, thyme, lavender, rue, wormwood, purple sage, common sage, pineapple sage, white sage, fennel, parsley, lemon balm, oregano, marjoram, st. john’s wort, linseed, calendula, land cress, chamomile, calendula, lovage, mallow, marsh mallow, lemon verbena, tobacco, angelica, raspberry, black currant, red currant, stinging nettle, comfrey, chick weed, sorrel, oxalis, yarrow, foxglove, borage, nasturtium, rosehip roses, tea bush, celandine, hops, cape gooseberry, rhubarb, liquorice, amaranthus, Jerusalem artichokes, mint, st. Gilead’s balm, strawberry, clary sage, chives, savory. In the vege garden we grow corn, leeks, beans, carrots, parsnip, swedes, turnips, potatoes, lettuce, pohata, tomatoes, cucumber, gherkins, broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprout, beet root, radish, spinach, silver beet, peas, fenugreek, split peas, chili, onion, garlic. We get about 200kg potatoes per year, about 75 – 100kg beans. We take the seeds from the best plants to grow the following year, which means that we don’t really know of any diseases or major bug attacks. With a variety like this we don’t invite only one species of bugs. There are many different and hence only in small numbers. They seem to keep the balance without our interference. We had 360 pea plants climbing the pea frame last summer. It is a beautiful garden, a garden of life and living.
The garden we are going to Is no garden yet. As for so many sections is has just been left to be overgrown, been driven on and been filled with rubbish – just like the one we came to 5 summers ago, only bigger. We have many hours ahead of us to turn this into a one dimensional garden. Once we get started we will give updates on the progress.
Our garden will never know of rising food prices Our garden is a haven of real life for real people
